Ba Vi sacred peak, To mountain, Mount of St Tan Vien - the first among four immortals in Vietnamese folk beliefs, occupies an important position in terms of geography, locates in a large plain in the northwest of Hanoi capital, is a place where the climatic condition, topography, and vegetation are very distinctive and diverse.

Not focusing investment and developing strongly from the early 20th century compared to Da Lat, Sapa and Tam Dao, the French colonialist quite considered when placing the first bricks on Ba Vi. The planning project of Ba Vi before 1945 of the French faced many difficulties in terms of finance, human resources, materials, and especially major changes in political institutions to turn Ba Vi peak into a luxury resort with large scale for colonial officials and military officers. According to the planning map, the works expected to be built include: a youth school (Camp de Jeunesse) running from the height of 650m to 850m, a summer camp at cote 600 for children, a resort villa at cote 700 & 1000m, an office building of the post office, the police, the health and the church ... at the height of 1000-1140m, and a political prison at cote 1000..... In fact, most of the works in the Planning are not fully implemented, or have to change the purpose of use when operating.

When the August Revolution broke out, the French turned Ba Vi into an important base (cote 600) that controlled waterway traffic junctions to prevent the attack of the Viet Minh soldiers in the Northwest ... The war and movement of scorched earth policy have  left hundreds of ruins deep in Ba Vi national park until now ... ... ....

Through many events, carrying many wounds, many ruins, Ba Vi is always a big question of the researchers in culture and history, architecture and landscape. Unfortunately, up to now, there has not been any official study to chain, discover, evaluate, and awaken the potential of Ba Vi sacred mountain ...

The workshop is the starting program (Phase 1) to get the input data, serving the second phase of the project. The students used visualization, photography, and 3D modeling tools to express the survey content; then they chained the data sources to highlight the values of the existing architecture and landscape, ..., to discover the original, as well as to recommend for renovation. This is an exciting experience, a pioneering and challenging task. In order to awaken the potential of a natural heritage based on the existing historical values, along with the responsibility of the profession, it has stimulated the enthusiasm of the students participating in the project.

The result of the project will be announced at a workshop in September, organized by the Vietnam Association of Architects.
